Absolutely great and very insightful video. It seems the corporate giants off the old offline world are finally finding out what online businesses have know for years, its all about this list….the list of names, mentioned in the vid is the same thing.
Social marketing was started by web geeks, I wonder which offline or online power house comes up with the way to consolidate this info and then sell it or leverage it for corporate size sales.
Again great post and vid.

While this subject can be very touchy for most people, my opinion is that there has to be a middle or common ground that we all can find. I do appreciate that youve added relevant and intelligent commentary here though. Thank you!

I like this post. The video is great. But as for me, I suupose social networks are not always too good for business development. Sometimes they may be quite harmful for your work.

Aww, I kind of liked it when the big corporate giants weren’t in on the new digital world.
At least we can compete relatively fairly here =)

I share your feelings on that my friend! Especially as a small business owner…

I just don’t believe that the social media advantage lives up to the hype. It is just so dependent on the nature of the business. How many businesses do you see now with near dead twitter accounts, or old facebook pages, because it just got them nowhere. I ain’t saying it doesn’t work period, but I am saying it doesn’t work for the majority of businesses.

I think it will work for all businesses, to varying degrees. Having a wider presence on the internet is free advertising. I think many companies don’t know how to use social media effectively. Companies have to be consistent and they have to set themselves as an expert in their business so social networkers, in need, will seek them out. Companies have to participate… not just putting up ads! Post some useful information about your area of expertise or your industry. Post tips and insights … along with the ads. Design something that rewards people for using your business when they come across it in a social network (ex. an online discount ). Social Networking can bring great brand recognition and should be seen as a longer term thing… building and expanding the customer-base.
Two main thing:
1. Keep your message focused on business or your industry
2. Be consistent
